Death Knight Starting Professions

Do Death Knights start with any Professions?
Currently Death Knights start with only one Profession: First Aid, pre-leveled to skill 225. All other primary and secondary Professions will have to be learned and leveled from 0 like with any other character.

Since Death Knights start at First Aid skill of 225, will they have to complete the "Triage" quest for their faction before their can level it higher?
No. Death Knights start with First Aide at skill level 225/300. It can be immediately leveled higher if the correct materials are on hand, without having to complete the "Triage" quest.

Profession Advantages for Death Knights

What are the best primary Professions for my Death Knight?
That question is very subjective and based almost entirely on what each player enjoys. That said, each profession has certain advantages and unique recipes or abilities available just to that profession.

What unique abilities with my Death Knight gain from...

...Mining?
Along with the ability to mine and smelt ore, a Miner gains Toughness, a permanent passive health buff. Miners can also Smelt Titansteel, a rare form of bar that has a 20-hour cooldown and is used by Blacksmiths in large quantities when making high-end weapons and armor, some of which your Death Knight might be wanting at higher levels. ...Herbalism?
Along with the ability to pick herbs, a Herbalist gains Lifeblood, a self heal over time ability. Herbalists also have access to a variety of buff herbs that can be randomly acquired while harvesting regular herb nodes. For example, Fire Leaf, picked from special Firethorn nodes, gives a short attack power buff. (See the Herbalism page for more information.)

...Skinning?
Along with the ability to harvest skins, hides, and fur from slain creatures, a Skinner gains Master of Anatomy, a permanent passive critical strike rating buff. As well as the regular leather and skins, each creature in Northrend has a chance to yield Arctic Fur, a rare reagent used in a variety of high-end recipes from many crafting professions, including the Engineer's Mechano-Hog mount. ...Alchemy?
Along with crafting a wide variety of potions, elixirs, and flasks, an Alchemist gains Mixology, a permanent passive buff that increases the effect and duration of any elixir or flask you consume which you also know how to craft. (See the Alchemy page for more information.)

...Blacksmithing?
Along with crafting a range of plate and mail armor pieces and a variety of weapons, a Blacksmith gains the ability to add extra gem sockets to their own gear. Currently Blacksmiths can Socket Bracers and Socket Gloves, and they may be able to socket other items as well in the future. The additional socket added with these abilities is colorless, meaning that any type of gem can be placed in it. (See the Blacksmithing page for more information.)

...Enchanting?
Along with the ability to add stats and ability-enhancing enchantments to gear, and Enchanter has access to a variety of new ring enchants, which can only be applied to an Enchanter's own rings. A few examples are the new Assault, Spellpower, and Stamina ring enchants. (See the Enchanting page for more information.)

...Engineering?
Along with the ability to create a wide range of gadgets and gizmos, an Engineer has access to a number of Engineer-only recipes and items. Some of the new items usable only be Engineers include new goggles (Ex: Armored Titanium Goggles and Greensight Gogs), the MOLL-E portable mailbox, and the Sonic Booster trinket. Engineers also have the ability to extract crystallized elements (like Crystallized Water) from special clouds floating in the air around Northrend, using the Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. ...Inscription?
Along with creating ability-enhancing glyphs for all classes, a Scribe has access to several Scribe-only shoulder enhancements, called Master's Inscriptions. They include enhancements for attack power/crit, spellpower/mp5, dodge/defense, and spellpower/crit. They can also craft Scrolls of Recall, a cheap consumable which functions like a second Hearthstone on a 15-minute cooldown. (See the Inscription page for more information.)

...Jewelcrafting?
Along with crafting a huge range of stat-enhancing gems for socketing into items, a Jewelcrafter has access to a new form of powerful Bind on Pickup gems called Jewelers' Gems (Ex: Bold Dragon's Eye), of which only three can be socketed on the Jewelcrafter's gear at any given time. They can also craft new socketed Bind on Pickup trinkets as upgrades to their old figurines, such as the Ruby Hare and Twilight Serpent. (See the Jewelcrafting page for more information.)

...Leatherworking?
Along with crafting mail and leather armor pieces and stat-enhancing armor kits, a Leatherworker has access to new Fur Linings, permanent Leatherworker-only bracer enhancements such as Attack Power, Spell Power, Stamina, and others that give Elemental Resists. ...Tailoring?
Along with crafting a wide range of cloth armor and containers, a Tailor has access to several new Embroidery recipes, permanent Tailor-only cloak enhancements: Darkglow Embroidery, Lightweave Embroidery, and Swordguard Embroidery. Tailors also have a range of new colorful flying carpet mounts, such as the Flying Carpet and Swift Flying Carpet. Also, Tailors gain the Northrend Cloth Scavenging ability, which grants the Tailor extra cloth drops from slain mobs. (See the Tailoring page for more information.)

Craftable Items for Death Knights

Are there any Death Knight-specific craftable items?
The only profession that currently has Death Knight-specific items is Inscription, which creates ability-enhancing glyphs for each class, including Death Knights. However, these glyphs are Bind on Equip and can be easily found in the Auction House or purchased directly from your friendly local Scribe.
